Privacy Policy
SocialEase ("the app", "we", "our") is an iOS app that helps families and carers create social stories for individuals who benefit from visual, step-by-step narratives. This policy explains what information the app stores, how it is used, and your rights.
1. What data the app stores
The app stores only the content you create:
- Stories — titles, page text, emoji selections, and background colours
- Photos — images you add to story pages or profile pictures, taken from your device's photo library or camera
- Audio recordings — voice narrations you record within the app
- Profiles — names and photos you create to organise stories
- Settings — appearance preferences such as colour scheme and text size
2. Where your data is stored
All content is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. If you have iCloud enabled on your device, the app uses CloudKit (Apple's iCloud sync service) to automatically sync your stories, profiles, and settings across your other Apple devices signed in to the same iCloud account. This sync is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
We do not operate our own servers. Your data never passes through our infrastructure - it goes directly between your device and Apple's iCloud servers.
3. Data we do not collect
- We do not collect analytics, usage statistics, or crash reports through any third-party service
- We do not use advertising networks or tracking pixels
- We do not have access to the content of your stories, photos, or recordings
- We do not share your data with any third parties
4. Subscriptions and payments
SocialEase is available via an auto-renewable subscription (monthly or yearly) with a 7-day free trial. All purchases are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never receive, store, or have access to your payment card details. 5. Permissions
The app may request the following device permissions:
- Camera & Photo Library — to add photos to story pages and profiles. Photos are stored only within the app and your iCloud account.
- Microphone — to record audio narration for story pages. Recordings are stored only within the app and your iCloud account.
These permissions are optional. You can use the app without granting them. You can revoke them at any time in Settings → SocialEase.
6. Children's privacy
SocialEase is designed to support children and individuals with communication needs. The app does not knowingly collect personal data from children, and no data is transmitted to our servers at any time. All content remains on-device or within the user's own iCloud account.
7. Your rights (UK GDPR)
Because all your data is stored in your own iCloud account (or locally on-device), you have full control over it at all times:
- Access & portability — your content is on your device; you can export stories as PDFs from within the app
- Deletion — delete stories or profiles from within the app at any time; iCloud sync will propagate deletions to your other devices
- Account deletion — deleting the app and clearing its iCloud data (Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Storage → SocialEase) removes all data
8. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
